Thailand’s renewable energy developer Energy Absolute PLC (EA) [EA:TB] will officially launch its battery and energy storage system (ESS) production factory on December 12, as reported by Bangkok Post on November 23. The lithium-ion battery factory, totaling THB6bn, will produce one gigawatt-hour (GWh) of batteries per year for the company’s electric vehicle (EV) assembly factory, which will grow to 4GWh gradually. The new battery plant is expected to commence operations in the first quarter of 2022.
EA has already received orders to assemble 500 electric buses. While the new battery factory was under construction, EA outsourced the 100 bus assemblies to other companies and has delivered the buses. The company is scheduled to deliver the rest orders starting from early 2022. Moreover, EA has also secured a contract to supply EVs for public transportation to Bangkok Mass Transit Authority. Additionally, the renewable energy operator plans to launch a battery-run truck in the first half of 2022. Earlier, Thailand’s government announced a plan to produce 18.41m EVs by 2035, including 458,000 electric buses or trucks.
