The International Finance Corporation (IFC), the World Bank’s private-sector arm, and BTG Pactual, Latin America’s largest investment bank, have unveiled a landmark partnership to deploy up to US$1 billion in sustainability and development projects across Brazil and the wider region by 2028.

The initiative will channel capital through co-financing, equity participation, and private equity fund investments, with a focus on infrastructure, social and environmental development, conservation, and the bioeconomy. A major emphasis will be placed on nature-based solutions in the Amazon, reflecting the region’s critical role in global biodiversity and climate stability.

Under the partnership, BTG Pactual will spearhead the identification of suitable projects and investment vehicles, while IFC will bring financial expertise and technical oversight, grounded in its Environmental and Social Performance Standards. The collaboration is intended to ensure that investments deliver measurable impact while adhering to strong sustainability safeguards.

Alfonso García Mora, IFC’s Regional Vice President for Europe, Latin America, and the Caribbean, underscored the partnership’s broader importance:

“This partnership with BTG Pactual is a testament to our commitment to fostering sustainable private sector development and job creation in Latin America. The private sector can and should be a critical player in advancing the climate agenda and driving transformative initiatives.”

The move aligns with a broader global trend of private capital playing a pivotal role in climate finance and sustainable growth. By combining BTG’s regional reach with IFC’s governance and sustainability expertise, the collaboration aims to accelerate resilient, environmentally conscious development in Latin America through 2028 and beyond.
