Les investisseurs institutionnels asiatiques sont invités à se concentrer sur des objectifs ESG et de transition mesurables

Asset owners across Asia are being urged to shift away from simply selecting green assets and adopt a more comprehensive approach to sustainability that includes measurable transition targets. This push comes from Ben Caldecott, co-head of the UK’s Transition Plan Taskforce (TPT), which is focused on aligning UK climate transition strategies with global regulatory standards. Caldecott emphasized that institutional investors in the Asia Pacific region must move beyond passive emissions measurements and consider asset-, region-, and country-specific transition planning in their asset allocation processes.

Caldecott, who also serves on the UK Climate Change Committee, noted that different asset classes and regions experience varying impacts from climate change. This calls for a more nuanced strategy that incorporates geographic and asset class considerations, which could significantly enhance both risk-adjusted returns and sustainability impacts. Failing to address these factors during the asset allocation stage results in missed opportunities for investors to optimize their portfolios for long-term climate goals.

The approach, while still in its early stages, focuses on creating robust strategies for emissions reduction and sustainable outcomes. These strategies must also include clearly defined execution plans, which are critical for achieving desired climate impacts and achieving carbon neutrality. Additionally, Caldecott pointed to growing investor interest in infrastructure, reflected by increased mergers and acquisitions (M&A) activity within the asset management sector in Asia Pacific.

As asset owners in the region face mounting pressure to meet ESG goals, they must adapt to these evolving expectations by creating measurable, actionable strategies that align with global climate commitments.
