Italy launches first official presence at Oman Sustainability Week to bolster green partnership

Italy has launched its first-ever official presence at Oman Sustainability Week 2025, marking a major milestone in bilateral trade and ESG cooperation. With trade volume between the two countries rising to €708.9 million in 2024—a 31% increase from the previous year—Italy is doubling down on its strategic partnership with Oman in green energy, carbon neutrality, and technological innovation.

The Italian Trade Agency (ICE/ITA) led a delegation of 17 companies in renewable energy, waste management, engineering, and green technologies. Their participation underscores Italy’s commitment to supporting Oman’s Vision 2040, a roadmap focused on economic diversification and a carbon neutral strategy. Oman aims to source 30% of its electricity from renewables by 2030 and eliminate routine gas flaring in the same timeframe.

The two countries are aligning their ESG priorities through green hydrogen and ammonia projects, particularly in Duqm, which plans to generate 1.2 GW of capacity. Italian firms like ENI and Saipem are already active in Oman’s oil and gas sector, while others explore opportunities in solar energy and offshore exploration.

Italy’s technical expertise and premium exports—especially in machinery, electrical components, and sustainable fashion—are increasingly in demand. The reopening of ICE’s Muscat Country Desk in 2024 and its national pavilion debut at this year’s trade fair signal a reinvigorated commitment to trade diplomacy and sustainable collaboration.

Officials from both nations emphasized their shared vision for ESG innovation, energy transition, and responsible economic growth. With robust public-private cooperation and a growing appetite for sustainable solutions, the partnership between Italy and Oman is poised to set new standards for international green collaboration.
