Levi Strauss & Co. has announced an ambitious joint initiative with Schneider Electric to accelerate the adoption of renewable electricity across its global supply chain.

The new program, known as the LS&Co. Energy Accelerator Program (LEAP), is designed to help the denim giant meet its climate goals while supporting suppliers in their transition to cleaner energy. Indeed, the initiative will play a critical role in Levi Strauss’ plan to reduce supply chain emissions by 42% by 2030 from a 2022 baseline, with the ultimate aim of reaching net zero by 2050.

According to the company’s announcement, the program will initially be rolled out in India, a market with robust renewable energy infrastructure, before expanding to additional regions over time. LEAP will provide suppliers with access to favorable pricing, investment opportunities, and financial incentives to encourage renewable energy adoption. Training programs and technical guidance will also be offered to raise awareness and build capacity within supplier networks.

As part of the partnership, Schneider Electric will deliver advisory services and financial analysis to suppliers interested in renewable solutions such as on-site solar installation, renewable energy certificates, or group power purchase agreements (PPAs). This collaboration builds on the companies’ prior engagement in the Walmart Gigaton PPA program in the United States, where Levi Strauss participated as a buyer and Schneider Electric managed the initiative.

Steve Wilhite, President of Schneider Electric’s Sustainability Business, highlighted the alignment between Levi Strauss’ sustainability ambitions and Schneider’s renewable energy expertise. He emphasized the company’s commitment to accelerating the clean energy transition across global supply chains.

With LEAP, Levi Strauss and Schneider Electric aim to unlock new opportunities for cleaner energy, starting in India and ultimately extending across Levi’s global supplier base.
