CDP and GRI Launch New Mapping Tool to Streamline Climate and Energy Reporting

In a major step toward simplifying sustainability disclosure, CDP and the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) have launched a new GRI-CDP mapping tool that connects data requirements for climate and energy reporting across both organizations’ frameworks. The resource aims to reduce duplication, improve data quality, and enhance the consistency of environmental disclosures worldwide [1][2].

The new tool aligns CDP’s 2025 corporate questionnaire with GRI’s recently released Climate Change (GRI 102) dan Energy (GRI 103) Standards, allowing companies to “write once, read many”, meaning they can use the same data for multiple reporting purposes, including CDP’s disclosure platform and GRI sustainability reports [2].

CDP, which operates a global environmental disclosure system, saw a record 22,700 companies disclose data in 2024, while GRI’s Sustainability Reporting Standards remain among the most widely used frameworks globally [1]. The collaboration between the two organizations was formalized in 2023 through a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at improving the interoperability of sustainability reporting systems [2].

Amir Sokolowski, CDP’s Director of Climate, emphasized that the mapping marks “an important step towards more consistent and effective environmental disclosure.” He noted that companies can now report GRI-aligned data directly through CDP, easing the reporting burden while improving access to “high-quality, comparable information” [1][2].

Similarly, GRI’s Director of Standards, Harold Pauwels, called the tool “a new milestone in the cooperation of GRI and CDP,” explaining that it provides much-needed clarity for organizations implementing GRI’s new climate and energy standards. By strengthening alignment, he added, the initiative directly responds to corporate demand for simpler, more coherent sustainability reporting [1][2].

The GRI-CDP mapping will be officially presented during a joint webinar, Unlocking synergies to streamline climate disclosure, on October 28, 2025. The session will guide participants through the tool’s structure and demonstrate how it supports consistent and transparent environmental reporting [2].

As global sustainability reporting continues to evolve, this collaboration underscores both organizations’ shared goal: turning data into actionable insights that accelerate the transition to an economy aligned with climate and sustainability objectives [1][2].
