The State of Qatar has urged developed nations to honor their climate commitments by reforming international financing systems and building on the progress of previous COP summits. This call was made during the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), held in Baku, Azerbaijan.

HE Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie, Qatar’s Minister of Environment and Climate Change, emphasized the urgency of tackling climate change, particularly for vulnerable developing nations. Highlighting sustainability as a cornerstone of Qatar National Vision 2030, he detailed Qatar’s updated Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and the launch of its 2024-2030 strategy to achieve a sustainable, balanced environment and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 25% by 2030.

Qatar’s National Climate Change Action Plan comprises hundreds of initiatives focused on emission mitigation, renewable energy investment, and stringent governance systems to ensure progress. The Qatar National Renewable Energy Strategy, alongside large-scale solar projects and the Tarsheed program, underscores the nation’s dedication to reducing its carbon footprint and advancing its strategi netral karbon

Dr. Al Subaie also highlighted transformative developments in transportation, such as the Doha Metro, Lusail Tram, and the replacement of over 70% of public buses with electric alternatives. Qatar’s commitment to sustainability was further exemplified by hosting the first carbon-neutral FIFA World Cup in 2022.

Internationally, Qatar plays a pivotal role as a leading supplier of low-carbon liquefied natural gas (LNG) while advancing clean energy solutions. The nation continues to prioritize environmental protection through robust air quality monitoring and sustainable infrastructure initiatives.

Reaffirming its commitment to the Paris Agreement, Qatar calls for enhanced global collaboration to combat climate change and ensure a sustainable future for generations to come.
