sales@senecaesg.comItalian energy company Eni will participate in five carbon capture projects selected by the UK government as part of a group of initiatives worth USD25bn of government funding, as reported by Reuters on March 31. Eni’s responsibility in the projects will be to transport and store carbon dioxide emissions in the HyNet North West consortium, which aims to create a low-carbon energy hub in the North West of England. The projects will help decarbonize large emitting companies in the industrial hub of North West England and North Wales, including the cement sector, and produce hydrogen with a low carbon footprint.
The UK government has set a target of net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, and these carbon capture projects are part of its plan to achieve this goal. The government is also investing in other initiatives to support clean energy, including plans to quadruple the country’s offshore wind capacity by 2030, and investment in new nuclear power plants and research into advanced nuclear technologies. Eni’s participation in the carbon capture projects is a positive step in the fight against climate change, and demonstrates the company’s commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
