The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) has announced the appointment of Abigail Ng as its first dedicated Chief Sustainability Officer (CSO), effective October 6, 2025. Ng, who has served with MAS for nearly two decades, currently leads the Markets Policy & Consumer Department and brings significant experience in sustainability disclosure and collaboration with international organizations [1][2].
She succeeds Gillian Tan, who has concurrently held the roles of Assistant Managing Director (Development & International) and CSO since 2022. Under Tan’s leadership, MAS’ Sustainability Group (SG) launched several cornerstone initiatives, including the Finance for Net Zero Action Plan to mobilize financing for Asia’s low-carbon transition, the Singapore-Asia Taxonomy for sustainable finance standards, and collaborative efforts such as the Transition Credits Coalition (TRACTION) and the Financing Asia’s Transition Partnership (FAST-P) to accelerate energy transition and blended finance in the region [1][2]. Additionally, the Sustainable Finance Jobs Transformation Map was introduced to strengthen the skills and capabilities needed in the sustainable finance workforce [2].
In its announcement, MAS highlighted that the transition to a dedicated CSO role reflects the maturation of its sustainability agenda. “With MAS’ sustainability agenda entering a more developed and mature phase, this is an opportune time to transition SG’s leadership to a dedicated CSO role” [1][2].
Ng’s appointment marks a significant step for MAS as it continues to embed sustainability at the core of its regulatory and developmental functions. With her background in policy development and stakeholder engagement, Ng is expected to build upon Tan’s progress in aligning financial sector initiatives with broader climate and sustainability goals. Tan will continue as Group Head of Development & International at MAS, ensuring continuity in leadership and strategy [1][2].
