Mitsubishi Heavy Industries America, Inc. (MHIA), a subsidiary of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI), has acquired a portfolio of three utility-scale solar power projects in Southwestern Pennsylvania from Oriden, an MHI Group company based in Pittsburgh. The portfolio includes the Pechin Solar, Gans Solar, and Listonburg Solar projects, which are expected to provide a combined total of 43 MW of AC power. Pechin Solar and Gans Solar, both located in Fayette County, will deliver nearly 14 MW each, while Listonburg Solar, situated in Somerset County, will contribute nearly 15 MW. All projects are set to be operational by fall 2024, with Pechin Solar and Gans Solar going live in September and Listonburg Solar in October. This portfolio aims to generate nearly 78,000 MWh of carbon-free electricity annually.

This acquisition underscores MHIA’s commitment to ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) principles and sustainable development. By integrating these solar projects, MHIA will significantly advance its carbon neutral strategy, contributing to a reliable energy supply while fostering local community relationships. Tak Ishikawa, President and CEO of MHIA, emphasized the significance of these projects in promoting renewable energy and supporting MHIA’s carbon neutrality goals. Bill Miller, President and CEO of Oriden, expressed pride in developing these projects in Pennsylvania, a region historically known for coal power generation.

Looking ahead, MHI Group aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2040, driving the energy transition through strategic investments and the development of renewable energy projects. The company is dedicated to decarbonizing both energy demand and supply sides, contributing to a sustainable, carbon-neutral future. Through these efforts, MHI Group not only supports global climate goals but also enhances the stability of electricity supply, embodying its MISSION NET ZERO declaration.
