Denmark has unveiled an innovative biochar strategy as part of its broader carbon-neutral strategy, aiming to reach net-zero emissions by 2045 and achieve a carbon-negative economy by 2050. Biochar, a material created by heating organic matter in the absence of oxygen, offers a powerful means of carbon sequestration, with the ability to store carbon in the soil for hundreds of years. This method is expected to remove large amounts of carbon from the atmosphere, contributing significantly to Denmark’s climate goals. 

The country’s new biochar initiative supports its Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) objectives by encouraging sustainable practices and reducing its carbon footprint.
