Malaysia’s palm oil board and state oil firm Petronas [PET:MK] have inked a pact to explore the utilization of used cooking oil and residual palm oil materials for the creation of eco-friendly aviation fuel, as reported by Reuters on August 16. Solidifying their collaboration on August 14th, the organizations formalized a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to delve into the feasibility of leveraging palm-based resources, including discarded cooking oil and waste generated during palm oil milling, as primary inputs for local bio-refineries aimed at producing sustainable aviation fuel.
This accord also harmonizes with the objectives of Malaysia’s National Energy Policy 2022-2040, which is dedicated to cutting down carbon emissions and harnessing the energy sector’s potential to drive the nation’s socioeconomic advancement. The Malaysian Palm Oil Board emphasized this alignment in a statement released on Wednesday, highlighting the pivotal role of the signing in contributing to both sustainable energy practices and the country’s overall development.
