Ford Motor Co announced an expansion of its recall, affecting 125,000 SUVs and trucks due to the potential risk of engine failures leading to fires, as reported by Reuters on June 6. The recall pertains to certain models of Escape and Lincoln Corsair SUVs, as well as Maverick compact pickup trucks from the years 2020 to 2023, equipped with 2.5L hybrid or plug-in hybrid engines. Ford cited engine manufacturing issues as the cause of premature engine failures, which could result in the release of engine oil or fuel vapor, heightening the risk of fire and injuries.
This recall follows an earlier one in July 2022, affecting 100,000 vehicles, after instances of fire or smoke were reported. Ford disclosed that it had received reports of three additional fires following the initial recall. Both Ford and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recommended owners to park their vehicles, turn off the engine if they notice unusual noises or power reductions, and report any signs of smoke. Ford stated that it is currently working on a solution for the new recall. Additionally, Ford recently issued another recall for 142,000 Lincoln MKC SUVs, advising owners to park their vehicles outside and away from structures until the necessary repair is completed. In this case, dealers will install an in-line fuse to the battery monitor sensor power circuit.
