Avangrid, the US subsidiary of Spanish multinational electric utility company Iberdrola , has begun the construction of the True North photovoltaic plant in Falls County, Texas, as reported by ESG News on August 25. The True North plant will have an installed capacity of 240 megawatts (MW) and is expected to provide sustainable and clean energy to power Meta’s forthcoming data center in Temple City, Texas. This initiative aligns with Meta’s commitment to utilizing 100% renewable energy for its global operations, which it announced in 2020. The True North project is anticipated to commence operations in early 2025 and will mark Avangrid’s first solar farm in Texas.
Iberdrola, the parent company of Avangrid, is dedicated to delivering competitively priced green energy to customers pursuing decarbonization. The company has entered into power-purchase agreements with various business customers, including Danone SA , Bayer AG , and PepsiCo Inc . Iberdrola’s presence in the US includes managing over 9,450 MW of installed capacity across 25 states, with more than 8,700 MW of that capacity coming from renewable sources. In addition to its renewable energy efforts, Iberdrola recently launched Carbon2Nature, a new initiative aimed at generating carbon credits through nature-based solutions that reduce carbon emissions and enhance biodiversity. This initiative is in line with Iberdrola’s broader commitment to achieving net-zero emissions throughout its value chain by 2040.
