Jones Lang LaSalle (Thailand) Limited (JLL) has firmly committed to a robust sustainability strategy by pledging to reduce its absolute scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions by 95% by 2040, aligning with the SBTi Net-Zero Standard. The company’s approach focuses on creating inclusive communities, taking decisive climate actions, and promoting healthy spaces. Specific initiatives in Thailand include relocating to the country’s first WELL-certified office building, The PARQ, and implementing various sustainability projects to reduce waste, encourage sustainable transportation, and enhance energy efficiency. These efforts are driven by the necessity, as 37% of occupiers surveyed in Thailand believe on-site renewable energy provision will become indispensable for decarbonization goals by 2030. Additionally, a vast majority, 80% of respondents, expect their energy needs to be met by renewables, compared to just 23% today.
JLL Thailand is making significant strides in sustainability by providing reusable lunch boxes and coffee cups to staff, launching a carpooling system, and reducing corporate cars by 40%. The company also leads in social sustainability by organizing over 40 events in 2023 focused on diversity, inclusion, and corporate social responsibility (CSR), with plans to continue this trajectory in 2024. Future initiatives include introducing hybrid cars to reduce fuel emissions by approximately 20%, launching a “Zero Waste to Landfill” project, and implementing a barista service to minimize single-use plastic usage by JLL staff and clients. The transition to renewable energy is deemed crucial for the real estate industry to turn buildings into active energy contributors. Demonstrating the financial benefits of integrating ESG principles into property management, JLL highlights potential cost savings and enhanced asset value due to improved energy efficiency and waste reduction. The push for ESG compliance is evident as the demand for low-carbon spaces is expected to influence 70% of lease renewals by 2028.
