The Green Infra Wind Energy, a subsidiary of Sembcorp Industries , won a contract of an Indian wind power project with a total capacity of 180 megawatts (MW) in a concluded auction on October 22, as reported by the Economic Times on the same day. So far, the subsidiary has already received the letter of award from Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI). The project will locate the wind farm in Karnataka and include a power purchase agreement (PPA) with SECI. Under the PPA, Green Infra Wind Energy agreed on selling the solar electricity to SECI for the next 25 years.
Sembcorp Industries is a utility and service provider for industrial sites such as power, gas, steam, water, wastewater treatment, and other on-site services. Its businesses also contain integrated urban solutions for industrial parks, business, commercial, and residential spaces. Its headquarter locates in Singapore, with the other two offices in India and the UK. According to Sembcorp Industries’ sustainability report, the company stated that its climate-related strategy is to transfer the energy portfolio from brown to green, by increasing the share of clean sources in the energy portfolio and decreasing its carbon footprint during the operations. Sembcorp Industries possessed renewable assets with a more than 3.3-gigawatt (GW) electricity capacity in 2020, which further contributed to avoiding 4.1m tons of greenhouse gas emissions. This wind energy project in South India assisted the company, as well as Green Infra Wind Energy, in enhancing the company’s competitiveness and capabilities in renewable energy. So far, the company has commissioned around 1,000MW of wind projects from all the four SECI bids.
