Siemens , a prominent German conglomerate, has disclosed its intentions to commence solar energy equipment production within the United States by 2024, as reported by Reuters on August 15. This strategic decision is a direct response to the opportunities afforded by President Joe Biden’s landmark climate change legislation, designed to bolster American-made solar energy components and bolster competition against China. Siemens’ focus will center on manufacturing solar string inverters, pivotal devices responsible for converting solar panel-generated energy into usable electrical current for the U.S. utility-scale market. The manufacturing process is slated to take place at a facility situated in Kenosha, Wisconsin, operated by Sanmina , a contract manufacturer.
This partnership aligns with Siemens’ efforts to address the nation’s supply challenges in the pursuit of localized production for green and sustainable infrastructure. Brian Dula, Vice President of Electrification and Automation at Siemens Smart Infrastructure USA, underscored the significance of collaborating with Sanmina to establish this new production line. The venture is well-positioned to contribute to the nation’s drive for renewable infrastructure while addressing pressing supply chain considerations.
